We all have a story to tell.

Johanna Hauterville

As a Vancouver-based video editor, I work with clients around the world to create content tailored to their individual needs.

Before going freelance, I spent 12 years working in post-production for major networks in Paris. I moved to Canada in 2018, retrained in video production and editing at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and have been editing full-time ever since.

Much of my work is long-form conversation: talking-heads, podcasts, interviews, webinars and testimonials. I also cut vlogs, documentaries, personal stories and educational videos, and turn those longer pieces into shorts and reels for social media.

I've edited for channels with millions of subscribers and for people publishing their very first video. The size of the audience doesn't change the job: find the story, respect the assets, and make every edit earn its place.

Behind the Build

01 / CORPORATE DOCUMENTARY

Behind the Build

Stefanie took a crew around Florida to meet the people who make glass and windows. I cut it as a corporate documentary: sit-down interviews, factory-floor footage, and a throughline that carries you from one company to the next.

02 / YOUTUBE TALKING HEAD

Olly Richards

I've been editing Olly's language-learning channel since 2022, working alongside his producer and scriptwriter. The recording comes to me with the script, I put together a first rough cut, and then detailed notes come back on the captions, graphics and animations. I build those, and add the creative touches that hold it together.

03 / TESTIMONIAL

Cache Financials

Cache is a fintech that helps people diversify their portfolio. For their testimonial series, I animated the key figures into clean on-screen graphics and kept the pacing calm and precise, which suits an audience that takes money seriously.

Why They Resonate

04 / VIDEO PODCAST

Why They Resonate

Jay Acunzo sits down with a speaker to break down one of their own talks, with the host, guest, and speech all on screen at once. I designed the show’s graphics package and animated the different windows so the layout moves naturally with the conversation.

Each episode also opens with a punchy intro designed to grab the viewer’s attention right from the start.

KPMG

05 / CORPORATE INTERVIEW

KPMG

KPMG sat down with AG Hair's CEO to talk about switching the company's production over to hand sanitizer when the salons closed. I cut it from a multi-camera interview and layered in the product and factory footage, working to their brand package: their own typeface, their lower thirds, and the end card they supplied.

Ghosts of Britain

06 / PARANORMAL SERIES

Ghosts of Britain

Lee and his team run a community of over 3.4 million followers on Facebook where they hunt ghosts on live stream. They send me hours of live footage and I shape it into an episode: curating atmosphere, building suspense, and giving the audience a suitable climax with a satisfying resolution.

Top Fives

07 / HIGH-VOLUME YOUTUBE

Top Fives

Top Fives has over three million subscribers and publishes one video per day. I've been one of their editors since 2019, cutting between three and five a week. Much of what you see is assembled rather than filmed: stock, archive, generative AI video and custom graphics, alongside the presenter intros they shoot now. Once the video is locked in, it goes to their sound engineer for the music and mix.

    Podcast cutdown

One moment from a podcast episode, recut for a vertical feed. The captions are heavily edited and animated, word by word, so it holds up with the sound off.

    B-roll and captions

John is a well-known Silicon Valley patent attorney. I've been editing his long-form videos since 2022, and I cut short versions of them to bring a new audience to his 1.4M-subscriber channel.

    Webinar cutdown

One exchange lifted out of a healthcare webinar, on what staffing shortages actually cost the people who stay. Cut vertical and captioned.

Whatever you're making, it deserves an editor who cares about it as much as you do.
